Fighters of the Caribbean 21-10-2017 @ ISC

Next Generation Warriors will organize the 2017 edition of "Fighters of the Caribbean" on Saturday October 21 at the International School of Curacao.
The fights are under supervision of CUMAFE (Curacao Martial Arts Federation).

Earlier editions of “Fighters of the Caribbean” with participation of Suriname, Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch part), Saint Martin (French part), Aruba, Bonaire, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, USA, Morocco, The Netherlands and Curacao, were all successful.
We are looking forward to even greater success at This year’s event, the 6th edition of Fighters of the Caribbean.
The main event is not only a high level one, but also a very special one.

YDK (Yiu di Korsou) Cedric Bacuna (40) who fought worldwide will fight his farewell fight on his own island, su dushi Korsou.
Cedric fought more than 80 Muay Thai and kickboxing fights and won many great fighters, like winning the world champion Wanlop Sitpholek from Thailand and winning multiple world champion L'houcine "Aussie" Ouzgni by TKO.
One of his highlights was in 2011 by winning the Championship belt of the WMTA (World Muay Thai Association) in the A-class Middleweight (-72,5 kg.).
Cedric lives in Groningen and trains in Amsterdam at Vos Gym under guidance of Ivan Hippolyte. You need a lot of discipline to travel 4 hours a day (2 hours and 2 hours back) to practice your sport.

Most of the times fighters get an easy opponent for their farewell fight, but not Cedric.
Cedric's opponent is not an easy one at all, but a Venezuelan pro-fighter that wants to keep his undefeated record in Muay Thai and kickboxing.
Jonasky Sojo La Maquina is a professional fighter from Venezuela. In Thai-kickboxing he is undefeated with 15victories and 1 draw, in MMA he has 7 wins and 3 losses, in box he has 11 victories and only 1 defeat and in Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) he has 25 wins and 2 losses.

Grego Scharbaai of Baas Sports Curacao will fight his MMA pro debut against Venezuelan Antonio Jose Castillo Robles, which has already seven professional MMA fights.
Grego Scharbaai (72 kg, 23 years) fought twice an amateur MMA fight in the cage, but fought more bouts in the ring as a boxer (4) and as Thai-kickboxer (5). His opponent Antonio Jose Castillo Robles (70 kg, 23 years) from Venezuela has next to 7 MMA Pro fights a Muay Thai record of 5 wins and 1 loss.
Scharbaai recently made a good impression by convincingly defeating his opponent from the Netherlands during the Honor Fight League. This was a Thai boxing fight.

Brandon Fos (68 kg, 23 years) from Curacao/ Days gym NL will fight a B-class Muay Thai fight vs Angel Leonardo Curvelo Ramos (68 kg, 23 years) from Venezuela. Fos has a record of 14 victories and only 1 loss.

A little history of “Fighters of the Caribbean”.
Since 2004 Edwin Baas from Baas Sports organizes with the Curacao Martial Arts Federation (CUMAFE) different Martial Arts and Combat sports events, like international fight nights. In 2008 Baas made plans with Angelo Rosalia from Next Generation Warriors & Panther martial arts management for “Fighters of the Caribbean”.

The 1st edition of “Fighters of the Caribbean” took place in 2009. Rosalia made an international A-class Muay Thai fight possible between Cedrick “Tula” Copra and Remco Hisken. Copra won his Dutch opponent after 5 rounds of 3 minutes.

A year later, during the 2nd edition in 2010, Denise Kielholtz won after 5 rounds Muay-Thai the main event vs Ouasila Nasseri.

At the 3rd edition of “Fighters of the Caribbean” in 2012 Milangelo Eugenio won in the main event Hassell from Aruba. With this victory in the A-class the fighter from Baas Sports Curaçao won the Caribbean championship title belt of the WMTA (World Muay Thai Association). The co-main event, an international MMA fight, was won with a 1st round KO by Mohamed Hussein from Baas Sports Curacao.

The same Mohamed Hussein won in 2014 the main event of the 4th edition. Hussein won his Pro-MMA fight by submission in the 1st round.

At the 5th edition of “Fighters of the Caribbean”, in 2015, Joshua Karsters (Suriname) won the Caribbean WMTA championship belt by winning Akeem Lewis (Sint Maarten).

Wheelchair Boxing

One of the plans for the new year is to bring boxing to a higher level and more accessible to more people.
People with disabilities, like the ones who use wheelchairs, have the same needs as everyone else. They need social interaction, physical activity, and a healthy sense of self-worth. The sport of boxing can help satisfy those needs. Under the right supervision they can get the exercise their bodies require and the confidence they need to succeed in different aspects of life.
We don’t focus on the disabilities, we focus on the abilities because there is so much they CAN do.

Fight gear

The list below shows which items are needed to practice combat sports like boxing, Muay Thai kickboxing and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in the right way, proper and safe. These items are available at Baas Sports.
- Boxing gloves and / or MMA gloves
- Groin Protector
- Mouth guard
- Bandages (for your wrist and hand)
- Shin guards (not required for boxing)

Videos & Photos

We notice more and more videos of our classes published on the internet, like social media. This while we from Baas Sports didn’t even know and did not approve these recordings and publications.

For that reason from now on, it is not allowed to make video recordings at our classes. We from Baas Sports will make recordings ourselves and we will respect the privacy of everyone. If you train at Baas Sports and you don’t like it to be published in a photo or video, just let us know.

Making photos is only possible with permission of Baas Sports and only on the right moments, moments that Baas Sports decides.

The use of telephone, like calling, texting, etc. is prohibited, during classes. You come to train and not something else. Phones have to be turned off or on silent.

In the video below you find 84 minutes of footage recorded during several classes of Baas Sports Curacao.
Feel free to share.
